The radar
The radar is the only screen in Signal. It is a small, calm view of the people near you who have chosen, for a short time, to be open to meeting.
Radar is not a map
The radar is not a map. It does not render addresses, streets, or buildings. It does not place pins on a real geography.
It is a coarse, symbolic view: one cell of roughly one kilometre, with distance and direction shown approximately.
What the radar shows
A central marker for you. A few rings showing approximate distance. Several signal markers placed at different distances and sectors. A sweep that suggests activity. A small timer element that suggests the temporary nature of the signal.
Distance + direction
Distance to other participants is rounded to whole metres. Direction is shown as a coarse sector, not a heading. Both are deliberately approximate.
Temporary visibility
The radar only shows participants whose own session is active. When a session ends, that participant disappears from the radar. There is no "last seen" and no "people nearby" history.
Privacy boundaries
The radar is opt-in and bilateral. You see others only while they see you. There is no follow graph, no friend list, and no way to pin a person to a specific cell.
